Birthing In Louisville
The Center for Disease Control lists the following C-section rates:
United States 32.8% (data from 2010)
Kentucky 35.4% (data from 2010)
The cesarean section rate remains at an alarmingly higher rate than the 10-15% average recommended by the World Heath Organization (WHO). WHO estimates that over half of all cesarean sections performed in the United States are unnecessary.
In the February/March 2008 issue, “Fit Pregnancy” magazine ran an article grading the 50 largest U.S. cities on issues such as “Maternal and Infant Health Risk” & “Birth Options.” Louisville scored an F+ and D+, respectively.
